For years I have thought about using the internet as a tool for reaching countless people around the world. According to InternetWorldStats.com (website accessed September, 2008) the world’s population is an estimated 6,676,120,288 people, with an estimated 1,463,623,361 internet users globally. That’s an estimated 21.9% of the worlds population online, and the number is growing daily!
Right now we have the largest field of souls ready for the harvest, and it’s just one click away. By way of example: According to Answers.com, during a ministry that has lasted over 60 years, Billy Graham has preached live to more than 210 million people in more than 185 countries and territories during his lifetime. That’s an amazing amount of people, and yet the Internet has opened up doorways for outreach that I sure even Billy Graham must have only dreamed about, as there are internet connections in virtually every known country, state, province, city, and major town in the world.
In the western world, the main target group of HardcoreFaith.com, there are over 653million people who use the Internet daily; that’s almost 45% of all Internet users! 1.4 billion souls surfing the Net!
HardcoreFaith.com was born, in part, as a direct response to those numbers. According to the Barna Group about 47% of adults in North America attend church on a weekly basis. This is a very optimistic number as other sources indicate that the real number could be as little as 20%. If this is so then between 53-80% of North American’s do not go to church. The question that must then be asked is how can these people be reached with the life saving Gospel message?
Again, according to InternetWorldStats.com, over 73.6% of North Americans use the Internet on a regular basis. That’s an amazing opportunity for outreach.
And that is partly what HardcoreFaith.com is about. Reaching out to those to wouldn’t necessarily go to church, be it through fear, ignorance, hurt, or whatever reason keeps them away.
With that said, HardcoreFaith.com is also about reaching out to Christians who long for something more than the apathy and complacency that exists in many “Christian” circles. Over the last few years I have met many believers who are disillusioned, bewildered, or just plain fed up with what they see happening to the body of Christ. The truth is many people, believer and non-believer alike, are wondering, “Is there more to life?”
You bet there is!
I believe there are many people who are longing to live, truly live, and desire purpose and meaning for their lives, something I’m sure we all want. And why should we settle for anything less, especially when Jesus himself told us that we could have a full life!
As a writer and preacher, I strongly believe that it is my first and foremost responsibility to write about and preach the truths found in God’s Word in their entirety, with a focus on drawing out the relevance found therein. In short, the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth… after all, it is the truth that sets us free and helps us to live full and purpose filled lifes.
I also try and show how we can apply God’s Word to our everyday lives, which I believe enables us to live God’s Word in this world – that we may walk the talk, practice what we proclaim, and live love.
As always, my prayer is that the messages I write and preach will help people to be both challenged and inspired to live full lives; empowering the weak to become strong; the nobody to become somebody, the ordinary to become extraordinary.
Over two thousand years ago Jesus invited people to come and follow him, and I am extending this same invitation to you today… “Come, follow Him!”
